A Mercedes-Benz 710 SS 27/140/200hp Sport Tourer, introduced at the 1930 New York National Automobile Show, could fetch up to $9 million. The car goes under hammer at the Artcurial’s 2020 Retromobile auction.

The classic sport tourer is estimated at $6.6million to $8.8 million. The background of the vehicle starts with a trip to France, soon after it was revealed in New York.

The gracefully designed huge fenders arch over the wheels, a creation of Howard “Dutch” Darrin of Fernandez & Darrin, an American coachbuilder based in Paris in the early 1930s.

“The wings [fenders] are very special, and the general line of the car is very Darrin,” says Matthieu Lamoure, managing director of Artcurial motorcar division.

The 710 SS 27/140/200hp could reach a top speed of 124 miles per hour (200 km/h). It still features the original body and a 7,065 cc six-cylinder in-line engine, that delivers 140 horsepower at 3,200 rpm, increasing to 200 hp when the supercharger is engaged.

The 91-year old automobile and has never gone under hammer before, so the auction scheduled for the 7th of February in Paris is its very first.

Mercedes Benz also built racing versions of the Sports Tourer. The SSK and SSKL derivates achieved outstanding success in motor racing, with Rudolf Caracciola, driving an SSKL (W 06 RS), being crowned at the 1931 Mille Miglia, on the 13th of April.
