Mercedes today officially launched the new generation of the smaller GLA crossover, which was made on the MFA2 platform.

This means that, compared to the previous model, the new GLA has a 30 mm longer wheelbase (now 2729 mm), a 14 liter larger boot (435 liters) and 116 mm more rear passenger seat.

The GLA II is 104 mm taller (now 1611 mm), wider by 30 mm (1834 mm) but also 14 mm shorter (now 4410 mm) than the previous model.


Like the new A-Class, CLA and GLB, the new GLA has a more modern interior, which includes a digital instrument panel (with screens ranging from 7.0 to 10.25 inches, depending on version), even higher quality materials, seats with cooling and massage, as well and turbine shaped vents.

The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, which has the ability to learn thanks to artificial intelligence as well as intelligent voice control, occupy a special place.

Depending on the market, the new GLA will be available with the following gasoline engines: 1.33 liter with 163hp and 250 Nm (GLA 200 version) and 2.0 liter with 224hp and 350 Nm (GLA 250 version) as well as 2.0 liter engine with 306hp and 400Nm (Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 version).

Specifications for diesel engineers are yet to be announced, but 1.5 and 2.0 liter turbo-diesel engines are expected.


In addition to some versions, the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system will be available and with the standard Off-Road Engineering Package. Part of the equipment includes, among other things, an automatic braking system (at speeds up to 60 km / h), blind spot monitoring, a vehicle lane maintenance system … The new Mercedes GLA will hit the European market in the spring of next year (in Germany the base version will start at a price of less than 35,000 euros), while the production will be taken care of by the Rastat plants in Germany and Beijing in China (the latter only for the needs of the Chinese market ).

Particular attention in the range is occupied by the sporty Mercedes-AMG GLA 35.

Here under the hood is a 2.0 liter turbo four-cylinder engine that develops 225 kW / 306hp and 400Nm of torque, enough for the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 to reach 0-100 km / h in just 5.1 seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 also includes an 8-speed AMG Speedshift DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission, 4MATIC four-wheel drive, adaptive damping system, digital instruments, an optional head-up display, as well as an MBUX multimedia system.

Also included in the package are the AMG aero body kit (front spoiler, sill set, rear diffuser, rear roof spoiler), characteristic front grille, sport exhaust, stronger brakes, AMG wheels (19 to 21 inches), as well as a sports interior with new seats and leather multifunction AMG steering wheel with flattened lower part.
